چکیده

The genus Pseudozyma is an anamorph that belongs to the Ustilaginales. Pseudozyma species are unusual yeast-like fungi and are most frequently isolated from plant materials. The Pseudozyma strain, BCRC 33871, was isolated from the flower of Albizia julibrissin in Taiwan. BCRC 33871 was identified as P. antarctica and described based on morphological, physiological, and molecular data. This discovery marked the first finding of this species in Taiwan. To ensure correct identification, the intraspecific variations of P. antartica were illustrated based on physiological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis of ITS1 and ITS2 rDNA sequences. Additionally, distinguishing characteristics of P. antartica and other related species were discussed.

Pseudozyma hubeiensis, an unexplored yeast: It’s potential in biomass conversion to value added products

The species of the genus Pseudozyma belong to ustilaginales based on the morphological studies1 and molecular characterization.2,3 There are 11 species reported so far from this genus that are distinguished by analysing the sequences of combined ITS and D1/D2 regions. Boekhout & Fell4 reported seven species and Sugita et al.5 described two species isolated from blood of the patients. Two more s...

A taxonomic study of blue-green algae based on morphological, physiological and molecular characterization in Yazd province terrestrial ecosystems (Iran)

Based on the limited resources available to algal flora in Yazd province in the center of Iran, cultivation, purification and identification of soil algae from seven sites was performed in summer 2013. The soil samples were processed for analysis of Cd, Pb contents. The present paper attempts to analyze survey of soil blue-green algal identification in different types of stations, using morphol...

Direct xylan conversion into glycolipid biosurfactants, mannosylerythritol lipids, by Pseudozyma antarctica PYCC 5048(T).

Mannosylerythritol lipids (MEL) are glycolipid biosurfactants, produced by Pseudozyma spp., with increasing commercial interest. While MEL can be produced from d-glucose and d-xylose, the direct conversion of the respective lignocellulosic polysaccharides, cellulose and xylan, was not reported yet. The ability of Pseudozyma antarctica PYCC 5048(T) and Pseudozyma aphidis PYCC 5535(T) to use cell...

Pseudozyma hubeiensis sp. nov. and Pseudozyma shanxiensis sp. nov., novel ustilaginomycetous anamorphic yeast species from plant leaves.

Among basidiomycetous yeast strains isolated from wilting leaves of various plants in China, two groups of Pseudozyma strains were distinguished from the others by morphological and physiological characterization. Molecular taxonomic analysis based on sequencing of the large subunit (26S) rRNA gene D1/D2 domain and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region confirmed that the two groups represent...

Exploring Conjugate Addition Activity in Pseudozyma antarctica Lipase B

Multifunctional enzymes have alternative functions or activities, known as “moonlighting” or “promiscuous”, which are often hidden behind a native enzyme activity and therefore only visible under special environmental conditions. In this thesis, the active-site of Pseudozyma (formerly Candida) antarctica lipase B was explored for a promiscuous conjugate addition activity. Pseudozyma antarctica ...
